Cranberry Sauce with Sour Cherries

Ingredients

  • 1 12 ounce bag of fresh raw cranberries
  • 3/4 cup dry sour cherries (usually just called dried cherries, in the Craisin aisle)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup raspberry freezer jam
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons spiced rum (I use Captain Morgan’s, but this is ok to omit)

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in large saucepan and simmer over medium heat until cranberries start to pop – about 10 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat and bring to a slow simmer and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in rum.
  4. Refrigerate overnight to thicken sauce.

  1. Christine,
Made the sauce today (Thanksgiving 2010) and will be trying it later today with dinner. Hoping that I allowed enough time to set up (put into freezer). Will let you know how it goes. Looks like the picture! So far, so good!
