After some more troubleshooting, it appears that updating my version of php to the a newer version has solved the issue.

There's definitely something funky going on with the theme files. I just did a full WP uninstall and reinstall, and the issue remains when I am using the Vysual theme. I am able to use the WP default themes in the customizer, but once I activate Vysual, the customizer stops working. This is immediately after the fresh WP install, and prior to any plugin installation. Please advise, as this does appear to be related to the Vysual theme, and I don't have this issue on my other websites using other custom themes.

Yes, I had created a custom front page template and modified header.php and style.css. However, if I remove my custom template page, replace header.php with the original, I still have the issue. And in fact, I see now that I also get the same error when I go to "Appearance --> Header". That takes me to an error page. So could there be an issue with header.php? And would modifying anything in style.css cause a problem like this?

Have you made edits to any of the template files? I noticed your home page appears to be customized, so if you've made any edits, please revert to a default setup of the theme and check to see if the customizer is working.

Wordpress is up to date and I've deactivated the two plugins I have on the site. The issue is still present. Any other idea what could cause the customize function to fail like this?

Hmmm... I can't seem to get any insight to the issue you're having. I can confirm the customize page is working on the default setup of the theme for all my test sites.

The blank Customizer page can be caused by an older version of WordPress (you can check for updates at Dashboard > Updates), or, more likely, a plugin conflict. De-activating all plugins and testing will help us know if that’s the cause.

I'm not aware of any theme-based issues that would cause a problem with the Customize page. That is a WordPress-generated page, so I'm not too sure.

Today when logging into my dashboard to make some edits, the "Customize" option under "Appearance/Themes" did not work. Clicking on "Customize" takes me to a blank page that does not load. I've already checked plugin conflicts - there was only one plugin (Akismet) and it wasn't currently active. I've already deleted and reinstalled the theme. Nothing has worked to fix the issue yet. Any ideas as to what the cause is, or how to fix it?
