Hi there, thank you for creating the option to make individual categories full screen, this is exactly what I was looking for. I am wondering how I can make one of my categories the front page? So when a visitor gets to my home page, they only see a small selection of the videos I have on the site, and then can navigate via the menu to other pages with the rest?

Well now, let's not get carried away here... Wouldn't suggest anything if it didn't seem to be for the overall health and appeal of a product I already believe in. This polishes an already great theme with a truly valuable option that can nudge potential customers just enough into diving in. Glad it all worked out.

Hey there,

I'm uploading an update (v1.0.6) right now with the following changes...

1. New option on Customize page to check the categories you want to display full screen (i.e. recreate the "Videos" page template for selected categories).

2. New checkbox option to "Use Poster-Style Font" for footer credit text.

Hope that satisfies some user demands ;-)

Best,

It really is a bug.

I visited those links and as expected, they're simply not on point. Apples and oranges. Whereas you offer the capability of a front-page full-screen video, it is fundamentally mandatory for that to also appear in a line-up of full-screen videos as an entry -- whereas the examples you show are using a site architecture that provides OPTIONS to designers whether or not to require it. Moreover, apples and oranges again: those examples make sense repeating the primary video -- again, as an OPTION -- because they include prominent, visible hyperlinks to specific videos, also labeling them. Your carousel simply does not include that capability, rendering the user experience with an impression, again, of a site bug.

It's funny when a minimal amount of coding (that simply filters out posts based on categories for the full-screen video option, already built into WordPress) is denied users on the justification that one preference beats another preference: past a beginner level, design is all about CHOICES. You offer them to people and your business thrives, or you limit them and people dribble away.

I'll keep using your theme since I put so much time into it already, but I'll keep an eye out for alternatives with more options and also the likeable ingredient of developer enthusiasm.

Hi there,

Please understand that this is in no way considered a "bug". This is a intentionally designed page template meant to mimic major motion picture websites. Here are some example sites that served as inspiration for VYSUAL...

Interstellar: http://www.interstellarmovie.net -- notice when the page loads, it plays a trailer. Navigate to the "videos" page and it plays the same video fullscreen with link to the other videos similar to the "Videos 1" page style.

MAD MAX: Fury Road: http://www.madmaxmovie.com -- notice when the page loads, it plays a trailer. Navigate to the "videos" page and it plays the same video fullscreen with link to the other videos similar to the "Videos 1" page style.

Inception: http://wwws.warnerbros.co.uk/inception/mainsite -- notice when the page loads, it plays a trailer. Navigate to the "videos" page and it plays the same video fullscreen with link to the other videos similar to the "Videos 1" page style.

Batman Vs. Superman: http://batmanvsuperman.dccomics.com -- notice when the page loads, it plays a trailer. Navigate to the "videos" page and it lists the all the videos similar to the "Videos 2" page style.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: http://www.dragontattoo.com/site -- Navigate to the "videos" page and it lists the all the videos similar to the "Videos 2" page style.

I appreciate that your project would benefit from having a category page that shows video posts full-screen (as opposed to the list layout currently applied to category pages), but please understand that is a preference/opinion you have for your project and does not mean that my intended design/features are "bugs".

Let me just add that I'm not opposed to looking into this as a feature update, but don't expect this to be a rushed request/feature that is meant to "fix" something you feel is broken. That's just simply not the case. I always review my themes for possible improvements, but with 25+ themes on the market, it takes time for me to effectively do this. I hope you appreciate that these feature requests do not land on deaf ears. I'm listening...

Best,

Christopher

I disagree with this, in terms of both the extent of it has been requested, and the justification for the way things are based on your view of the way movie sites are designed: it's a logical problem, because you are arguing for keeping a feature limitation beyond which we'd have more options, while it's fundamentally not true that the movie sites you reference (but do not link to) have redundant content across categories. You might want to re-read my above bug report, more closely, to understand what I'm talking about.

I'll repeat this concern in the so-called "feature requests" topic that is really more in the nature of a bug report, and I hope you'll fix it. Thanks.

@focuspulling

I appreciate the feedback on this. Please understand it's not a holdout for more money or anything like that. I made a design/development decision when I initially built this theme to have a full-screen page that links to all video posts as that was (and is) what I saw as a feature on almost all official movie sites. It made sense then and (in my opinion) still makes sense. This feature has maybe only been suggested/requested once or twice, so it's definitely not a "most widely sought" feature.

If you have alternative approaches and suggestions for this theme, PLEASE be sure to post them all on the feature request thread here as this feature has NOT yet be requested there: http://www.themolitor.com/forums/topic/feature-requests-for-vysual

I really don't understand the resistance to offering what looks to be the most widely sought minor feature update to your theme, Christopher (which would take a minimal session of coding -- maybe an hour or less?). You've created a "Videos Page" template under "Page Attributes" that is totally incapable of showing a category. It's an odd insistence in that you do offer a sticky for a video at the landing page, but proceed to require that the same video redundantly appear in the only way to begin videos full-screen. The alternative approach offered, of creating a category with a gallery of MULTIPLE video clips is really not any solution for practical purposes. The ability to have a menu item that links to a full-screen "Videos Page" template (like the homepage with a sticky-ed video) presenting a category of videos -- that could most importantly include just one video -- is a dealbreaker for this template.

It oversimplifies to say, as you wrote above, "As far as the 'videos' page template goes, it has always been intended to link to ALL video posts following the same "official movie site" features you see for major motion films." The reality is exactly the opposite. You are denying the capability for designers to hone in on specific videos, and simply mandating a carousel of every single posted video.

Is this a money thing? Is development halted on Vysual because you want more funding? I like the template a lot and if that's what you want, just let us now -- we'll pay. As it is, Vysual is almost finished but not quite.

Hi there,

Sure thing!

1. Create a category (i.e. "Videos 2").

2. Assign video posts to newly created "Videos 2" category.

3. Add category link to menu (not page link, but a category link). Menu Screenshot

I see... so In other words should one want to select only a specific subset of videos published as posts to be shown on the video page, that would currently be impossible. Same goes if one would want to give them a specific order or needs to reorganize them. If so the template can certainly be much improved as far as functionality that offer flexibility to those who bought it thinking the ability to do that would not even be in question.

At this time then the only way to accomplish something similar would be to set publish dates sequentially so that the order of how the video posts will be shown on the video page will be in the desired sequence. Obviously only the set of videos intended for the video page can be published... or they would all be displayed on the videos page... would these be correct assumptions? If so then basically it's not possible to create more than one videos page to show a set of videos on one and a set of videos on another (and so on for multiple videos). Should that be the case would be rather disappointing :|

Hi there,

The "Video Page" is a page template that displays one post at a time in a full screen format. It does not display any content other that video posts. There should be a play button, title and post content as shown here: http://themes.themolitor.com/vysual/videos/

The most recently published video post (or sticky post) will display first, just like a post category page.

If you have multiple video posts, there will be left/right arrows to navigate to those items.

Currently all published video posts are displayed on the video page template.

Hope that helps!

The documentation for the "Video Page" states:

"When using the "Videos Page" page template, the page displays a single video post with play button and title/content in the lower-right corner. There are arrow links to additional video posts. "

Now my question is the following:

Should a video page be just an empty page with a title and set to use the video page template? If not what should it be?

If the video page "displays a single video post" then should one create an empty video page and a post with a video in it? If so I don't see where the video page is "made aware" of which post it should load... would it load randomly (or in sequence) all available video posts? If that's what it would do, can one include or exclude a specific set of video posts?

Thanks in advance for clarifying this... it might be helpful to add clarifications to the documentation so that users will know how video pages and video posts work... what's the dynamic and the specific steps to create a video page to feature one or more videos.
