Hi there,

Please keep in mind these features of the theme are optional and provided as an added design/experience element to the site. Since it is not actual site content, my best suggestion is to not use audio/bg video if you're too concerned about loading times in Safari.

Making sure your audio/video are optimized as much as possible for the web is really crucial and often overlooked. Beyond that, I really can't think of anything other than removing the loading notice all together.

Best,

Christopher

Hi Christopher,
thx for reviewing the issue again and your answer so far.

But the issue ialso affects the bg audio. That means that if there is a mp3 with 3-4 MB running as background audio, the newest safari needs to download the complete file first before the spinners disappears and so that any interaction with the site is possible.
What would be your recommendation?
Thx!
FL

Hi there,

This sounds like a browser issue with regards to the DOM. With the way the loading notice script works (it uses the $(window).load() function), it only fires when ALL content has finished loading. If Safari is choosing to only fire the load function when the entire video loads, then that is a browser thing and not something I can force really. At least not to my knowledge.

My best suggestion is to keep your background videos short and have a small file size. That's always the best approach regardless of loading issues.

Hope that helps some.

Best,

Christopher

Hi Christopher,

I am aware of the loading functions of the spinner. Please try to understand this issue and I' ll try to explain again:
taking your wp vysual or html vysual templates. both plain and not customized. both with video bg.
Even the whole page has already loaded, the spinner disappears only after the bg video has been completely loaded. This does not happen on firfox or chrom or older safari versions. It works fine on other browsers except the new safari on sierra.

Hi there,

The spinner is waiting for the entire page to load, not just the video. This is more appropriate than just waiting for the video to finish loading as not all pages (or theme configurations) have a video. They also contain content like images, etc. jQuery fires a notification when the page is done loading, which is the appropriate time to remove the spinner/loading notice.

Best,

Christopher

update: when deactivating style on the browser, the video starts immidiatly...so looks like that it has to do something with the stylesheet...

for example, putting these lines just ar the beginning of the body, the bg video is starting instantly and it' s not render blocking .... referring to the new webkit policies:https://webkit.org/blog/6784/new-video-policies-for-ios/

<video autoplay loop muted playsinline>
 <source src="image.mp4">
 <source src="image.webm" onerror="fallback(parentNode)">
 <img src="image.gif">
</video>

In my own non pro words:
I guess something like this has to be implementd within the jquery document load function otherwise the preloader is not aware and it waiting and the js loader is spinning and spinning till the full bg video is downloaded.

Hi Chris,

I might didn't make myself clear enough. The bg video used to autoplay instantly as it gets its first bites. Now the js spinner is spinning all the time until the whole video is downloaded. This is not how it should be. Pls check as this s critical. It is also affecting your own de o sits on vysual and vysualize. Also the pure html version. this is critical!

thx

Hi there,

This is pretty standard - the video has to load before it can be played. This is especially true for videos that are not being played within a video player system. For more info about speeding up your site, please review this FAQ thread: http://www.themolitor.com/forums/topic/faq-why-is-my-site-taking-so-long-to-load

Hope that helps.

Best,

Hi Chris

Hi Chris,

since Sierra/Safari, background video sites now are downloading the complete video first, before the site shows up. This is a big speed performance issue. I guess it is related to formstone....
Please check on your own demo site after deleting the browser cache first.
Could you please give asap some advice how to deal with this key issue...
Best!
Thx!
