Chris,

I wanted to chime in and state that this is the exact issue I was having with my posts (pins across Europe), but I actually have over 1K of POI's I would have to update...
Does the changes to the functions.php that you mention above account for the fact that my POI's do not have physical addresses? This was the main reason I chose this template in the first place... Along with spending hundreds of dollars on other upgrades to back end plugins.

Anything less than allowing my old lat/lon data to be recognized by the template is unacceptable at this point.

While I do understand the need to update code it is always troubling to lose core features that were used to select the template.

Any help you could offer in using only the lat/lon data would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Edward

Hi there,

The custom fields in the latest version have changed because they needed to be updated for the new submission form feature to work (plus it's a better approach in general).

The old custom field data is still in your database, so that content is not lost. If you follow my instructions above, you'll be able to view the old custom post options on your post edit screen.

Try this... open script_list.php and change the following on lines 51-59 from this...

//CHECK FOR LEGACY IF VARS EMPTY
if($latitude){} elseif($oldLatitude){$latitude = $oldLatitude;}
if($longitude){} elseif($oldLongitude){$longitude = $oldLongitude;}
if($addrOne){} elseif($oldAddrOne){$addrOne = $oldAddrOne;}
if($addrTwo){} elseif($oldAddrTwo){$addrTwo = $oldAddrTwo;}
if($pin){} elseif($oldPin){$pin = $oldPin;} else {$pin = $sitePin;}

//GET LAT/LONG FROM ADDRESS
if (!$latitude && !$longitude && $addrOne && $addrTwo) {

...to this...

//CHECK FOR LEGACY IF VARS EMPTY
if($latitude != ''){} elseif($oldLatitude != ''){$latitude = $oldLatitude;}
if($longitude != ''){} elseif($oldLongitude != ''){$longitude = $oldLongitude;}
if($addrOne != ''){} elseif($oldAddrOne != ''){$addrOne = $oldAddrOne;}
if($addrTwo != ''){} elseif($oldAddrTwo != ''){$addrTwo = $oldAddrTwo;}
if($pin != ''){} elseif($oldPin != ''){$pin = $oldPin;} else {$pin = $sitePin;}

//GET LAT/LONG FROM ADDRESS
if ($latitude == '' && $longitude == '' && $addrOne != '' && $addrTwo != '') {

Let me know if that has any impact on the tags page linked above.

Best,

Hi there,

Looking at your site, I see there are customizations as well as some markup errors on tag pages. Ref: http://nyhistoric.com/tag/cemetery/

Looking at your source code, the lat/long are being generated properly, so I can only recommend that you revert to a default setup of the theme to make sure your customizations/plugins aren't the cause of any issues.

Let me know.

Best,

Hi there,

The update should load your old pins just fine. I built-in a safe guard for users updating so that they can view the old custom field options in order to migrate settings to the new custom fields.

In the latest version of the theme, open functions.php and locate the following on lines 119-122...

////////////////////////
//LEGACY CUSTOM POST OPTIONS
////////////////////////
//include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/include/old-post-meta.php');

...just uncomment that last line so it looks like this...

////////////////////////
//LEGACY CUSTOM POST OPTIONS
////////////////////////
include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/include/old-post-meta.php');

This will make your old custom post options visible on the post edit screen so that you can copy/paste the lat/long data if you experience any issues. Again, the new version SHOULD work just fine with your old settings, but this is an option if you need to see your old settings on the post edit screen.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

"The custom data from previous version is still in your database and is still used in the theme if new custom data isn't provided."

Just updated from 1.6.1 to 1.7.2 (last version on Themeforest) and yes, the custom fields were empty as well as all the posts were located in Nigeria or in the middle of the ocean while should be Thailand. I had to go back to 1.6.1 and the site it's working again.

It seems that 1.7.2 doesn't recognize the previous custom fields used by older versions of the theme.

Wordpress 3.7.1 Thanks :)

Hi there,

If you're updating from a prior version to 1.7, the custom fields will be empty because they are generated and managed differently than previous versions. The custom data from previous version is still in your database and is still used in the theme if new custom data isn't provided.

I had to change the way the custom fields were handled for a couple reasons...

1. The new method is written better and is currently the proper way to implement this feature.
2. The front-end submission form feature could not interact with the previous custom fields.

Hope that explains things.

Best,

I just updated to v1.7 and I'd like to know if there is still a way to set locations based on Lat/Long if they do not have a physical address.

My site is for a commercial real estate company that has listings for plots of land... in the previous version I could just grab the lat/long, plug that in and my non-addressed sites would show up perfectly. Now, all of my posts that do not have physical addresses have to be updated with addresses that I have to guess at which do not correctly mark the sites most of the time. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
