I probably wasn't clear in my original post. What you describe inserts the image into the body of the post. However, I'm wondering how to have thumbnail images show up when you hover over the featured image (for instance, in the "Vanilla Ice Cream" demo recipe.)

On the post edit page, you can simply click "add media" and upload as many images as you like.

I must be missing something. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to upload multiple images for a recipe like there are in your demo posts. Sorry if this is a dumb question - I did look around quite a bit for the answer.
