Glad it's all worked out now. It's hard to say why all that happened. I do know a lot of issues after updating are solved by simply saving the theme options settings again (even if you didn't change the settings at all).

When it comes to the database/server side of things, my knowledge is VERY limited. I try to stay out of that stuff as much as possible as I much prefer focusing on the front-end design/interaction.

Cheers!

Chris

Got the google stuff worked out. It appears the code that was in option tree, after the reloading of everything, was jumbled. I cleaned it and added it in correctly (orbitron info) and it's fine now!

Thus everything seems to be working well now.

Was that from potentially not "flushing" the wp-options? I guess there isn't a need for that now.

Hi there,

Can you provide a link to your site? I'll see how the Google font stuff is being handled.

Thanks!

I did a test: I deleted the theme, reuploaded it, updated WP etc. Everything shows up and seems to work fine. HOWEVER, it appears the orbitron font is not showing up. Seems like that is the only issue.

Possibilities of going wrong:

1. should i have deleted the OptionTree plugin before resintalling the theme?
2. Regarding my wp-options question above: If you can provide specifics on that, i would greatly appreciate it. Again not sure if you are asking me to "empty" the entire wp-options content, or something else. Want to be sure.

Right now, the site is doable which is great. But clearly, there is a setting off, most likely via the option tree situation you mentioned. If I can fix that, I am good shape. This was a test on the current live site, the files have all been moved to another server, so once I determine what needs to be done, i will do it on the other site and point it there.

Please advise and thanks.

Hey Chris, thanks. I can find the phpmyadmin no problem. I just wanted to clarify. You are suggesting that I activate a new theme temporarily, delete the theme, reupload the new eventure theme files, and then BEFORE activating it (or the child theme for it) I should "emtpy" the entire contents of wp-options from phpmyadmin? Just want to be clear. I can get to it all, but wanted to make sure I was understanding what you are suggesting.

Once activated, it will just repopulate the necessary info within wp-options?

Please clarify, i will then try this tomorrow. Thanks SO MUCH for your help!

Hi there,

The developers of the OptionTree plugin dramatically changed the plugin, which caused a lot or problems on my end. As a result, I had to incorporate the plugin into the themes in order to avoid that happening again.

Since the developers changed so much, the settings are different from one version to the next. If you used the older version of the theme, the plugin added stuff to your database that are not used anymore and may cause conflicts with the way the theme options work now.

Basically you'll need to log into your php-my-admin dashboard on your hosting and locate the table mentioned and make the suggested change. If you're not sure how to do that, please contact your hosting provider and ask them the process for locating that table in your database.

Hope that explains things a bit!

Chris

thank you!

Can you explain the "you may need to flush the wp_options in the Database before activating the new version of the theme as well" a bit more? Basically, best way to do this?

thanks again!

Hi there,

Please take note of ALL edits and theme options settings. The newest version no longer requires the OptionTree plugin (it's now built into the theme), so you may need to reapply your theme options.

1. If you delete the theme, you can use the upload tool.

2. Updates to this theme shouldn't affect child themes, but I don't know specifically what you did, so I can't say for sure.

3. Yes. Since you used the OptionTree plugin, you may need to flush the wp_options in the Database before activating the new version of the theme as well.

4. It's possible it won't stay, so I suggest copy and pasting it in a word doc until you have the new version setup.

5. When you deactivate a theme, it's possible your widgets will reset, so I would copy paste any customizations there just in case.

In general, it's just a good idea to create a word doc and paste in all the edits and notes regarding your customizations to the theme. Even if it's a completely smooth transition, it's just good practice.

Hope that helps!

Chris

Hey, I am about to try and update from 1.0.1 to 1.0.4. I have settings exactly the way I want them. I also have a bit of custom CSS in the custom css box. More importantly I have a child theme set up with the following files edited: style.css, dynamic.css and slider.php.

Few questions:
1. am I correct that all I need to do is temporarily activate another default theme (I have a child theme set up now), delete the "Eventure" parent theme, and then reupload the latest version of the theme which is the "eventure.zip" within the main theme folder? Then reactivate my child them? Can I do this via the upload themes function of WP? Or do I have to go through FTP?
2. Will my child theme changes stay in tact?
3. Do I need to disable or delete the option tree plugin since it seems that that is now included in the new theme? If I do, do I need to delete it before update, after update or does it not matter?
4. Will the code in the "custom.css" field be retained?
5. Will everything else stay in tact or is there anything else I need to do to make sure I don't have to "fix" anything after the update?

Please advise. I Want to make sure I do this correctly and don't lose settings or info. Thanks!
