You need to create posts for the new category. The blog is separate from the mapping system, so posts in the blog category are excluded from the map.

Dear Chris, I think I understand what you R saying... I believe you just said, I need also a separate category for map items... But, how does it know they are going to come up on the HOME page? Is this built into the scripting? I did not try that yet. Thanks again.

Thank you for your help. I have some friends I was hoping to bless today on Thanksgiving with this site. But I am stuck. I was going to change back to the static page so I can at least have PINS on the homepage. I am stuck & without your help I really don't have much more options, accept create custom pages for each blog, verses categories, until we get these errors worked out.

I did create blog POSTS.....

They come up fine but take away the PINS from the home page when I enable the BLOG CATEGORY.

I noticed many people have had this same issue, but the response you give is all the same.

It was loading because I did not have the BLOG CATEGORY on when you looked.

However, I have it on now. Thanks for looking into this.

You will notice the home page pins are not coming up, but now the category is showing.

You're site is loading just fine for me.

If you still have issues, be sure to assign a blog category. This is required for the theme to know how content should be displayed.

If you don't have a blog setup, you'll need to create the category and a dummy post so that you can assign it in the theme options (WordPress requires a post be published to the category for the category to be an option in the customizer).

Hi, I updated the theme to version 1.7.3 and I am getting this error when I go to Customize, General, Blog Category --- "You need to add posts to display on the map."

Note: I did make sure all the posts have the correct category and they are coming up nicely on the Country "Category Page". However, all the pins are off the home page and again, the error message You need to add posts to display on the map, comes up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't recommend commenting out the new post options like that. Legacy support is only intended to provide a way for users who are updating to keep their data. I posted the above instructions so that users can view their older data on the post edit screen if needed, but any changes or additions should be entered in the new post option fields.

In other words, you should only be viewing the old post options if you want to copy/paste them into the new fields. Otherwise, you don't need them.

I wanted to double check to make sure that commenting out (see below) is not going to cause issues moving forward with this template. I need to make this as streamlined as possible, since I have a couple people working with the back end.

Just to clarify, as of version 1.7.0 the custom post options (i.e. lat/long settings, etc) are completely new. The old custom post options data is still on your database, but it's not displayed on the post edit screen.

To view the old custom post options on the post edit screen (in addition to the new custom post options), open functions.php and change the following on lines 119-122 from this...

////////////////////////
//LEGACY CUSTOM POST OPTIONS
////////////////////////
//include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/include/old-post-meta.php');

...to this...

////////////////////////
//LEGACY CUSTOM POST OPTIONS
////////////////////////
include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/include/old-post-meta.php');

After making that change, you should be able to view both the old and new custom post options on the post edit screen.

The lat/long fix in version 1.7.3 makes it so that the old lat/long data is used if new data isn't present.

Did that update work for anyone? I applied it and still have blank fields for all posts. Legacy data isn't being ported at all. I double checked and it's definitely got the v1.73 changes. It doesn't plot a single thing.

I had to go back to the broken chrome version (1.6)

Please disregard my previous question. I remember now that the scripts.php hold default values for posts shown on front page.

There are growing pains with any new upgrade and I appreciate your attention to all of our concerns!

This is great work! Thank you for that. The only other issue I am facing is that the theme wants to place all 1000+ pins on the home page, ignoring the "Blog Pages Show at Most" feature in the Settings tab. Any suggestions?

This update addresses a minor bug for users with legacy long/lat data (i.e. version less than 1.7.0). If you're using version 1.7.2, you can manually apply the update by changing this line...

$oldLongitude = $data['latitude'];

...to this...

$oldLongitude = $data['longitude'];

...in the following locations:

• page.php: line 51
• script_list.php: line 46
• script.php: line 46
• single.php: line 36

Also, after making these changes, you can change the version number at the top of style.css to 1.7.3. Again, this update is only necessary if you're working with long/lat data from a version of the theme prior to 1.7.0.
