To answer your question, no it is not possible to do that. Clicking on an image moves to the next image, you cannot have two actions on one click.

What browser are you using where you're experiencing that issue? I can't replicate it...

when images are opened from a post, they initially open to a moderate scale, and if you click the upper right corner button they expand to full pixel dimensions. If the image exceeds the frame, the button to recollapse the image is inaccessible, so that the only way to continue navigating is to use the back button on the browser.

Is it possible to make the image expand/shrink on clicking anywhere in the image rather than just on that little button?
