The + is HTML... and indicates "more". We have many users that have no issues with it. If you do know HTML, you can certainly replace it with something else.

Perhaps I could change the + symbol to a share or connect symbol (plan to use the widgets for sharing).. I am totally open to suggestions either way. thanks

And what happens when you click the + symbol on the left? For me it opens up and displays your widgets...

Are the social logins a plugin? If so, uninstall that plugin and check the widgets again. If not, let me know, we'll keep troubleshooting...
