I've managed to find the source of the problem - I changed the directory of wordpress to /wordpress rather than using the root directory - to avoid clutter and hopefully improve SEO.

It seems wordpress moved all of it's core folders except for the image/media upload tool - it still uploads content to:
/public_html/wp-content/uploads/

rather than:
/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/

This is what was causing the pictures not to display in blog preview/portfolio view - so problem solved (as far as this theme is concerned - I'm going to post on the general wordpress.org forum later) I hope this is a help to anyone with the same problem.

I saw this in another thread called "Can't make portfolio page" http://www.themolitor.com/forums/topic/cant-make-portfolio-page but when I try to post a reply, it doesn't let me log in - that's a problem, but not my main one...

I'm having the same problem as bmosoff: in the previous thread my portfolio page is blank. I've watched the video and followed the steps with no success - I still can't get pictures to display in my Gallery page or in blog previews (on the home page).
