Since the thumbnail uses the full size image (to reduce loading times), the thumbnail cannot be cropped.

I will add that the dimensions of the thumbnails are similar to the dimensions of users screens. It's highly recommended that you make your images similar in dimension here.

If you have a portrait image, I suggest adding black space on the sides to make it a landscape image.

how can i keep my thumb image’s aspect ratio?
I'd like to display a square 120x120px that either keeps the max. width or height and crops the rest.
I tried to use css to scale:
.thumbLink img { width: 120px; height : auto; }
.thumbLink img { height: 120px; width : auto; }

but it's not working as it should.
