I'm just adding my two cents in here since I found a fix for my problems by trial and error. Alot of us are told that by CHMOD'ing the SCRIPTS folder to 777 or 755 this will solve our problems and all thumbnails should appear. Not if your host has something against you doing the same for a .php file.

When you CHMOD your SCRIPTS folder, make sure that you go in and CHMOD the timthumb.php file back to 644. As soon as I did that, my thumbnails started showing up. By rule most hosts will not allow you to CHMOD a php file to 777 or 755 and will prevent it from running unless you have it set to an appropriate access level.

If this works for you, buy the molitor a cup of coffee!
