Hi there,

This is a limitation with how self-hosted videos are currently managed by the browser. In my testing and research, the best solution is to have the image with the player on top.

That said, the theme is setup so that users shouldn't really see this browser limitation. Video posts are intended to display with a custom play button on top of the featured image using the "Videos 1" and "Videos 2" post layout options.

thanks for quick reply. It works but doesn't help.
Because there won't be a player in mobile view anymore and no thumbnail at all.
I still wonder cause its the same issue in every browser.

I see what you mean. This is an issue with how self-hosted videos are being managed by the browsers. This is not my design.

Try turning off the featured image for self-hosted videos by adding the following to your Custom CSS box on the Customize page...

video.singleVid {background: none !important;}

Okay, thanks. GIFs just work fine as featured image because your theme uses the full version of uploaded image.
But back to the thumbnail in selfhosted videoplayer on detail-post:
Even in your demo it looks broken (only desktop, mobile looks good), video seems to be layered above the featured image.

Only solution for me right now: Turning off videothumbnail but then i have to let start all videos with a thumbnail-like picture – that's not easy at all.

Hi there,

The featured image functionality is controlled by WordPress. WordPress takes the images and displays an adjusted version, which would not work for GIF images.

Maybe try searching a plugin?

for sure i do understand but always looks a bit broken.
On the one hand i need a featured image for the background (looks great) on the other hand the player preview doesn't look that good.
I hope i will find a solution for that cause your theme is really beautiful.

problem seems to be that the featured image gives the size of video container and the video itself is positioned above the image. Is there another way the integrate the featured image?

Hello,

I have a question about the featured images :)

For my scrolling video page, I gave every project a featured image thumbnail so the scroll is nice and even. However, when it gets to the project page itself, I'd rather the background just be black and not have the bigger version of the thumbnail.

Is there a way to accomplish this?
