I think I got the solution. Added to custom CSS:

li.box .theDay {line-height: 15px;}

Gives me the result I want.
No problem with the link color filling the box.
Now I have 4 readable lines of the event title! :)

Thanks for the stimulation, Chris!

Hi Chris,
The above is moving the calendar box contents as desired, but:

the blue color of the box is filling (about) the two thirds (2/3) of the box and not the whole surface. In other words, it lights up blue from top left to some bottom right point and the rest is white.
The blue covered surface is dependent on the pixel size entered on the:
{padding: 5px 17px;}
you suggested.

Excuse my english!
Take care,
Dimitris

Hi Chris,
The problem I am facing is that in each calendar box I can fit 3 lines of text (the event title). If the event title is bigger,the 4th line is half shown.
Since there is some space in the calendar box above the date, is there a way to move the calendar box contents a bit higher? Something like vertically aligning the contents on the top of the box? So that I could have 4 readable lines of text in the event title?
