Yeah, I get it. I'll figure something out. If I alter your theme successfully I'll report back.

I understand where you're coming from. However, the primary focus of this theme is the mapping system. The blog is a secondary feature. What this means is that all the WordPress features are geared towards the primary function of the theme (i.e. search, tags, categories, etc.).

If the search and tags worked for the blog-related posts, that would dramatically limit the capabilities of the mapping system.

Hope you understand.

Yeah, that's my problem. I have no way of accessing or indexing old blog posts. Since you said we need to use a single category for blog posts, I thought of indexing them by tag, but I can't do that. I went ahead and converted all my old categories to tags and assigned the "blog" category to all non-map posts. And I can't view them via the archives or the search feature. Unless a visitor wants to go to the blog page and read every post going back several years, my old blog posts are lost to eternity. With all due respect, and I really do dig the theme, the archives and search should work for everything, not just the non-blog posts.

Thoughts?

I'm actually considering running two separate blogs now, one that's a fully functional traditional blog and one that's the Navigator theme just for locations, as designed. Of course, I'd rather not have to do that.

I guess France is the center of the map, which is where the map is focused (or not focused if you think about it) when there is no marker info.

Tags are typically more specific and categories are more broad, but it's really up to you and how you want to use them. They're a built-in WordPress feature, so I didn't build them for this theme or anything.

What about the default map of France (?) showing up? What's that all about?

And one more tag question, is this theme basically set up that tags are no different than categories? I'm trying to see their usefulness in this situation.

Ah, I didn't realize that tags could only be used for map posts (non-blog posts). Thanks.

This is showing because the posts that are tagged '2011' don't all have map data. Make sure that if you're tagging posts that it's only posts that belong on the map.

For styling, check the bottom of the CSS file. Let me know if you need more direction.

When I click on a tag in the tag cloud in the footer, I get a map of France(?) for the background (that I can't zoom in or out or change to satellite), and only one blog post listed in the lower-left corner, even though I know the tag in question has 4 blog posts associated with it.

Am I doing something wrong or is the theme not equipped to handle tags in this manner? How do I get rid of the France map?

example (should be 4 blog posts showing): http://www.friarsride.com/tag/2011/

Also, regarding the tag cloud, the them overrides the hierarchy of font sizes. Is there anyway to undo it? I suppose I need to look for the style in the CSS and cut it out?

Thanks,

John
