I see what you're saying... hmmm, it seems as though Wordpress doesn't allow for characters to be part of your Slug. I would try looking into Plugins that allow Special Characters in the Slug.

I have to be honest though, I'm not sure I've really seen that - Wordpress is super SEO friendly, so I gotta believe they don't allow that by default for a reason. Sorry I couldn't be more help there.

If you click on any '$' category, it takes you to the category page, instead of highlighting the events on the calendar like it does with the other categories and in your demo, and fading out the rest..

I'm not sure I follow - it looks you've got it setup properly. Can you please clarify for me?

I found that the category slugs had to match the name of the category in order for the fade effect to happen on the caledar.. but I can't use the "$" symbol as a slug it seems. the fade doesnt work...here is the site:

Can you show me what's not working correctly? I haven't had any issues creating a Category called $$$$.

I have a few categories that separate my events by cost and are not working correctly. I've labeled the categories $,$$,$$$, and $$$$. Is there a way to have categories labelled with symbols like this? If so, could you provide me with the code and where it would have to go? Any help is appreciated-thanks!
