It makes perfect sense that navigation menus cannot be unlimited, and I can accept the fact that providing support on this issue for 99% of the premium templates out there would be above and beyond what most users demand. But since this template provides a unique functionality by showcasing geo-based content, I think "normal" does not apply. Consider someone who wants to post about the top-ten cities in each state for a variety of superlatives (getting a kick-ass hot dog, best places to grow a beard, etc.) and suddenly they're in the same boat as I am by having more menu items than screen size.

I'll continue to search out my own solution for this. Hopefully my comments will be taken into consideration for the next version of the theme.

Hi there,

This is a general limitation of all drop-down menu systems. This theme is not unique in the way drop-down menus are setup and handled, which means this is not a bug, but simply a limitation of this approach to menu organization.

The thing with navigation menus, whether they are horizontal or vertical, is that every single approach has a spacing limitation...eventually.

For example, horizontal menus can only contain as many links as there is horizontal space available before they start overlapping logos, extending outside the viewports, etc.

I see this happen with my WordPress dashboard menus as I have over 20+ sites and when I hover over the drop down menu it extends below the viewport, rendering 5 or so links not accessible. This is normal and I don't expect WordPress to fix this anytime soon. The fact is that *most* users don't have 20+ wordpress installs, just like most users don't have 15 3rd-tier drop down items.

Hope that explains things better and shines light on why this isn't a bug.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Since this is a bug that can/will affect anyone running the theme with multiple second and third-tier menu items, and the cause is specific to jQuery modifications made in the custom.js that ships with the template, can you enlighted me as to why you guys would not develop a fix? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see this as a "custom" fix. Rather, it appears to be a UI bug inherent in the theme's coding.

Thanks in advance for letting me and the other forum members know.

Hello,

that goes a little beyond the scope of theses forums and would require a bit of custom work http://www.themolitor.com/customization-quote-request/

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the functionality I'm looking for is the same as in the WordPress admin menu (left sidebar). When hovering over the "Settings" or "Tools" menus, the child items slide to the right and display top-down unless there isn't enough screen space, in which case the list will never extend beyond the bottom of the browser window. Hope that helps!

Hi Guys & Gals,

I've run into an issue and would appreciate any insight or assistance. Here's the quick overview... my top navigation menu consists of two page links and two category links. One of my top-tier categories (let's call it "Regions") contains 15 sub categories ("Zones"), and each of these second-tier "Zone" categories have another 10-15 child categories ("Markets").

The problem is that whenever I hover over one of the lower "Zones", the list of "Markets" is cut-off by the footer because there isn't enough screen space to display them all.

Rather than having to rely on the search field or clicking through category links to find these third-tier links, I would like to have the drop-down reverse to display bottom-up or align-middle from the second-tier parent whenever the list of items is long enough to exceed the viewable window boundary.

From what I've read, it seems that this can be accomplished by defining a viewportWindow with jQuery? I've looked through the custom.js and think I've sourced the menu dropdown behavior to the ul ".slideDown" argument in line 134, just not sure where to go from there.

Any thoughts?
