Using WordPress 3.4.2

I've watched the video, read through the help document, read posts here in this forum, but STILL cannot get slider images to show up. I must be doing something wrong. Can someone PLEASE list step by step instructions for getting the slider images setup. Or point me to the correct place in the documentation where I can find it. This is what I've done.

1. Create a post category called "Slider"
2. Set slider category to "Slider" with count of 2
3. Create 2 posts.

In each post I set the featured image to one of the 2 slider images I want. When this didn't work, I also added the image to the post itself. Still nothing.
This is a brand new install. I am using Contact Form 7 and GigPress as plugins. What am I doing wrong?
