Good idea. This would work for me, but maybe you can allow a choice in the customize settings?

Looking at this more, I'm realizing how annoying it is to have to go in and remove categories each time the event takes place. Would it be better to configure the slider to only show future posts? A possible downside to this is that some site admins may want to feature non-event related posts in the slider. With what I'm proposing, the slider would ONLY be visible when there are future posts/events.

Good idea? Bad idea?

The issue you were having was that the featured events set to display in the slider were expired. The slider shows posts in ascending order (past -> future). Once the event takes place, the theme hides it from the slider so that the next event displays first. To prevent all the slider posts from being hidden like they currently are, you'll need to retire them from the featured category after the event has taken place.

Thanks for the suggestion, but obviously this is not a proper solution from the programmer of this theme. What we need is a proper fix,,,but I wonder if this will every be forthcoming, which then says a lot about the person who is selling the product

Hello, my friend solved my slider ploblem by creating a new sub category, and ticking it for every future event. When she put all the events under this new sub category, the slider problem comes back, so we probably have a corrupted article or something... We don't have any logical explanation, but this worked! Hope it can help you too...

Also I confirm that I have set Customise, Slider to "Featured" All items are set with Featured under Categories.

I just want to confirm that you selected "featured" for the slider settings, correct? If so, I'm not sure what the issue is here. Have you tried deactivating all your plugins? It's possible there could be some interference there.

There are no slides showing in your source code, which indicates to me that one of your settings is not properly configured.

okay, I have made all my categories at the same root level, no sub categories. I have bulk edited all my entries as "Featured", then checked Customize and changed it to Events, then save it back again as "Featured." Still no images showing up in the slider

Hi there,

I noticed your "featured" category is a child category to your main "events" category. Try changing that so "featured" is not a child category and be sure your featured category is assigned under the "slider settings" section on the Customize page.

Hi there,

For both your sites, there are no posts shown in the source code, which indicates that you either (1) have not assigned a featured category or (2) there are not currently any posts published to the featured category.

If that doesn't help (and you've updated your WordPress version recently), it's possible you may need to reset your Customizer settings. You can do this by making a change, saving it, then reverting the change back (and saving again).

Just discovered that my slider is not working again. I have not made any changes since our last exchange here. I have set the posts I have to featured. Each has a featured image, but they are not coming up.

I just loaded your site and see the slider is working now. Let me know if you're still having issues.

Side note: you need to use larger images for your featured images. They're too small and are being stretched to fit the space they occupy in the theme.

I have done all that and just gone through everything including a wordpress re-install with INMOTiON hosting. The tech there couldn't get things to work properly either and told me the only thing would be to reinstall the theme. At present I am using version 1.4.8

To use the slider featured, be sure to (1) have a category selected on the Customize page, (2) have posts assigned to the category and (3) have a featured image assigned to those posts.

Actually, I got some images to come up by changing the category to "festivals" but still only a few a coming up. I tried to do a bulk edit to fix things but it didn't work....there is something weird going on with how the slider selects images...maybe a permissions issue?
