I figured it out... not sure if it's my hosting provider... but I actually had the folder security on the uploads "too open" at 766 and my hosting provider automatically locks things down at that point. So it needed to be at 755 at the most and files at 644 at the very most. If anyone else experiences this, try checking the settings :)

Be sure you're creating a category, such as "slider", populating that category with posts, adding featured images to that post (using the "featured image" WordPress tool), and then specifying the "slider" category in the theme settings.

I need help with the featured slider because it's not displaying the image on the home page, even though I followed the instructions. For Example http://sriuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/NS-50x38.jpg and NS.JPG for the main slider image. I have it to the dimensions you specified and had it optimized using the yahoo app you recommended.. but still no luck. If you shoot me an email address to my email on file, I can give you access to check it out....
