Since the dimensions of the background depends on (1) the user's monitor size, (2) the user's screen resolution, and (3) the size of the user's browser window in proportion to 1 & 2, there really isn't an ideal size.

W3C has Screen Resolution statistics that might help you make an educated guess with item 2, but remember, it doesn't address item 1 and 3: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp

Greetings I am trying to create a background for my website but I dont know what pixel size or inches i should use in creating my background image in photoshop.
any ideas in pixel X Pixel dimensions?
