I have removed only the jQuery library from the scripts.js

I modified header.php to

wp_enqueue_script('jquery');
wp_head();

Gravity forms wants the jquery to load in the header so it must be inserted before the wp_head();

Everything appears to be working.

The scripts.js file contains more than just the jQuery. You need to review the contents and only remove the jQuery library.

I have now deleted the scripts.js file from /wppolitico/scripts

The slider on the front page does not work as long as I have - wp_enqueue_script('jquery'); - in the header.php

If I remove - wp_enqueue_script('jquery'); - from header.php the slider on the front page works but gravity forms does not work.

Is it possible to move the jquery code script from the footer.php to the header.php - it seems that gravity forms prefers it there.

If I remove the jquery code script from the footer (Lines 67 thru 103) - gravity forms works fine but your slider does not.

In addition to adding the code in the header file, did you remove the jQuery from the scripts.js file?

You might have some luck replacing the jQuery in the scripts.js file.

Putting in -

wp_head();
wp_enqueue_script('jquery');

Doesnt seem to work. When put that in - the slider no longer works.

Is it ok just to download a newer version of jquery and upload it as scripts.js?

The jQuery is loaded in the "scripts.js" file, but you can try removing that and changing the following on line 18 of header.php from this...

wp_head();

...to this...

wp_head();
wp_enqueue_script('jquery');

The version number of jQuery is controlled from the "header.php" template file. At the top of the page, you can see the following...

wp_register_script('jquery', ("https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js"), false, '');

As you can see, we're using the Google directory to store the file. Just change the version number in the URL above to 1.7.2 so that it will look like this...

wp_register_script('jquery', ("https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"), false, '');
