i can't imagine that there is not way to remove sidebar from a post. so all posts HAVE to have the sidebar?

Nope - Posts go to Post Detail pages, Pages go to Pages... that's just a Wordpress function.

is it possible to make the home page posts route to pages rather that posts?

Go to Settings > Reading > and look at the "Front Page Displays: [page-title]". Then, go to that Page in the backend. Underneath "Page Attributes" select Template to Full Width page.
