The easiest way to do it is to just create a new page and navigate to the "reading" page (under "appearance") to make it the home page.

I run chandlerbible.com. I was able to remove the featured slider and just replace it with simple text. My mom is now wanting to do the same on her website, but I can't remember how I did it. Can you please assist? Please see the chandlerbible.com index page if I didn't adequately describe what I mean.
