On your Edit Page screen, you can hit "Screen Options > Check off Discussion > Scroll down the page and uncheck comments.

Did you want to remove the Date and Icon from the homepage? In your Style.CSS file, find this:

.block small {
padding: 0 0 0 20px;
background: url(images/icon_calendar.gif) no-repeat 0 center;
font-size: 14px;
display: none;
}

I've added "display: none;" which should do what you're looking for.
