You need to check the box in the screen options settings so that the option to turn comments off becomes available on the screen (towards the bottom).

I figured it out......Thanks so much!!! Those settings were very much hidden....It was actually under the Discussion tab and not the "Comments".....Thanks Chris!

I found the Screen Options Tab and saw that their was a "Comments" box but it was already unchecked....it didn't seem to be getting rid of the large comment box......Hmmm....

Where is Screen Options? All I see is my "Howdy Admin" icon and the Search Bar.....And on the left side the WP logo, New and "Edit Page" link. I don't see it anywhere....=/

Oh, wait. Are you referring to the comments box? That can be turned on/off from the page edit screen.

If you don't see an option to turn comments on/off, click the "screen options" button in the upper right corner of the screen and check the appropriate box to display the option.
