Hi there,

I understand completely. AJAX is a unique monster for sure. It's extremely powerful and adds lots of possibilities, but it's very difficult for plugin developers to account for all the different ways it's used in a dynamically-generated environments like WordPress.

Best,

Chris

Thanks Chris. I do understand that developers develop themes "as is" in a way. I can work around the Ajax-based incompatibilities, for the most part. I just wish they weren't there, that's all. Thanks for your timely response.

Hi there,

I appreciate your feedback here and I'm sorry you're getting disappointed.

One way to try and work around an AJAX-based plugin issue is simply to not use the AJAX feature for the panel you want the plugin to work on.

For example, if you have a contact form plugin that uses AJAX, put that on the first panel and don't use the "next page" feature for that panel (so that there is only one page for that panel). This will prevent AJAX from affecting that panel.

Regarding the error, Panels only supports pages and/or category links in the menu to generate panels on the front-page. The link you're adding from the calendar plugin must not be a proper page or category link, which is why it's giving you that message. I mention this in the walk-through video to give users a heads up about what is and isn't supported.

Hope that helps!

Chris

Hi. I'm becoming a bit a disappointed with this theme, to be honest. The latest Wordpress plugin to throw me errors or simply not work with Panels is Modern Tribe's Events Calendar plugin. Events simply don't appear as they should. In addition, the events category cannot be used as a menu item. It throws the following error:

Oops! tribe_events_cat menu items cannot be used as panels.
Please visit your "menus" page and remove this tribe_events_cat menu item from your main menu.

That would be liveable if I could add the events to a normal page and they show up as they should. But I can't do that either.

I have written to the people at Modern Tribe to see if they have any suggestions, but I'd also suggest to you that if this given implementation of Ajax breaks so many well developed plugins (like Disqus, AJDE Event Calendar, and now Modern Tribe's Events Calendar), it should either be reviewed or a very visible warning be added to the Themeforest page of the theme so that potential customers know the limits of the theme before buying it.
