I had a problem with my categories too. The category filter would work on the main menu but not on the calendar. I kept deleting and adding the same categories to see if it would work and nothing happenned.

Found the solution by deleting those categories from the database tables following the instructions in this link:

http://www.mktstmedia.com/blog/2011/delete-wordpress-category-numbered-slug/

And now it works perfect!!!

Hope it helps.

Thanks Zimooon! That solution worked for me.

I do, however, have a few categories that separate my events by cost and are still not working correctly. I've labeled the categories $,$$,$$$, and so on... Is there a way to have categories labelled with symbols like this?

I "solved" my problem by naming my categories and permalinks exactly the same, for example: Category name: Blablabla Permalink: blablabla. But if I add a special sign/letter like åäö or add a space between two words in the category name the problem accurs again. I tried anou's soloution to this but with no luck. I'm using the swedish translated version of wordpress, maybe that's the problem?

Same problem here! When I select the event category all of the events is highlighted as they should be. But when I select a child category to the event category, the events posted in them isn't highlighted, all the posts fade out to grey. I have checked both the event category and the fitting child category to each event when posting them. No edits done to the theme. Thanks! :)

Im having a similar issue.. I have 'Events' as the parent category, and my posts put into categories under that. When I click on the category names on the calendar, all of the post squares fade out, and none of the posts for that category are highlighted.
