Justin,

That does set the limit, but it's kind of weird. It seems to imply that there are further pages of posts--<1><2><next> show at the bottom--but clicking on them just brings me back to page 1. It seems reasonable that there is only a page 1, meaning that the limit is not just the number displayed per page, but THE LIMIT displayed PERIOD.

It's just the indication that there are further pages of posts will be confusing. This seems as though it may be more of a WP issue rather than a Politico issue, ya know?

I think I'll have to delete old posts or something.

Thanks again,
Susan

Susan,

Yup do this:

Go to Settings > Reading > Blog Pages Show at Most: ___

Adjust this number and it should fix the limit or posts that display. If that doesn't work let me know please!

Thanks,

Justin,

I think that answers my question, ya know? If the answer were, "Yes," then I believe you'd understand what the dickens I'm talking about. LOL.

Sooooooo, let's just move on to this: Is there a way to limit the number of posts that show up on the Home page so that it doesn't get too long? The rest will, of course, show up on the other category-pages.

Or can I limit within a date span what shows up on the Home page, something like that?

Thanks again for all your help,
Susan

Justin,

Hmmmm, but that's commenting on a specific post rather than, say, posting/commenting in general.

So, let me try my original question again: If a page, named anything--let's call it JOE--has screen options that allow comments and discussion, and I post something with a category of JOE, does that post go to the page JOE???????? That's what I thought happened. Is there a way to make it go to that page and NOT the Home page?

Am I being even close to clear? Communication is one of the most difficult exercises.

Thanks again,
Susan

Susan, it looks like you have it setup properly. You can control comments per individual blog post (that's where Screen Options come into play).

Let me know if you have any other issues.

Thanks,

Hi, Justin,

It's kinda scary, but yes, that does make sense. That's how I did the "news" category-page. But because it isn't a real page, there aren't the Screen Options that allow discussions and comments. I wanted to allow comments on the Blog page, but not on "news," so it didn't matter if the latter were just a category.

And, even if I don't need Blog to be a page, I thought it was supposed to work this way, too. Isn't it? I've now read through several forums sooooooo many times that my eyes are crossing over, but I thought I remembered reading here that assigning a category to a post will send it to a certain page OR to a, well, a category grouping like "News."

Isn't it supposed to work that way?

http://www.alec-destroys.democracy.org

thanks again,

Susan,

You don't need a page called Blog. You just need a Category called blog, with blog posts assigned to that category. Make sure that Blog is part of your main menu and when people click on it, they'll get the Blog Category page w/posts on it.

Let me know if that makes sense!

Thanks,
Justin

Full disclosure: I had created a category rather than a page named "News," and didn't think I would need the original "Blog" page. I did actually delete it. I've since decided I might want the two kinds of posts, so I've added a page named Blog.

If I add new Post and give it a category of "blog," my understanding is that it will go on the Blog page. It does NOT go there. It goes on the Home page only, not counting the "continue reading" page.

Any ideas?

I actually tried doing this before I deleted the original Blog page that came with the Politico theme. The same thing happened then, too, so it's not just because it's a different Blog page.

The "News" category is working well. It's not a page, it's a category. It's on the Main Navigation Menu as a category, so it looks like a page to the users. All posts marked with the news category show up there and on the Home page. Is that correct, or should they be ONLY on the News "what seems like a page"?

But I don't get the Blog page at all. Or rather, I don't get using any of the other categories. They don't seem to have any effect. All other posts just show up on the Home page, regardless.

thanks for any help,
Susan
