Justin, yes, the post is then in the "news" category. BUT, how does one get it to show up on a specific page on the website with part of it showing up on the Home page, just because it's now in the "news" category? There isn't a way to set a category for a page, unless I've missed something else, which is very possible. LOL.

In your Demo, the Blog page is a page. So how do you get those posts to show up on it? How do you tell certain categories to go to certain pages?

I can create categories, I can create posts, I'm better with the slider--I can even do both the nivo and dual sliders now, just as though I knew what the heck I was doing--but I just don't get how to point specific categories at specific pages, though I understand selecting categories for specific links and posts.

HELP!

Thanks again from http://www.alec-destroys-democracy.org

@specialprojectsunit

Try going to Posts > Categories and creating a category named "News"

Then, go to Posts > Add New > Create a Title, Content, etc... and on the right-hand side, assign the post to the News category.

Click Publish and that will add your post to the news category. Good luck.

Thanks,
Justin

I can't seem to figure out how to link to a category instead of a page. I want it to look like this: http://themeforest.net/item/wordpress-politico/full_screen_preview/139979

@specialprojectsunit

It appears you simply created a page called "News". To show posts like in the demo, you need to link to the category called "News" (not a page you create, but a category for posts).

Then you create posts and assign them to the news category.

Hope that helps.

Chris

The site is not "live" yet... I have it it maintenance mode with a temp page up. My designer told me she thinks she can figure out the problem. I just thought maybe I had inadvertently missed some setting somewhere. If she can't figure it out I'll post back in the next few days and make it live I guess for a short time.

Thanks for the quick response!
Nancy

Post pages should show an excerpt. Do you have a link to your site so I can check it out?

Basic starter question here... I could have swore when I set this up that my home page would insert short excerpts from my blog page blog posts... but they are not there now. Is this correct or do I need to figure out how to manually do that? Thank you!
