clarification - - when captions show, they are posted like text, not in a picture frame-esq presentation, differentiated from the post text...

Have an issue. Captions for pictures do not show on posts, either for pictures embedded in the post or on the featured image.

The caption does appear in the draft / when editing the post. Curious. Is there a way to correct this so caption shows on pictures?
