When I thought it was just the password, I did get in touch with the hosting company. It was the company's tech that said, "Many WP sites have been hacked this month." This was the reason I thought it might have been hacked.

The live site is now functioning fine, though I changed nothing.

Of course you don't do no support for hacking or other things that have to do with the servers on whatever hosting site I've chosen. I simply thought you might have an idea as to what this error message meant about the code in your theme, that's all.

thank you,
Susan

Again Susan you need to contact your hosting provider if your sites been compromised they'll walk you through what you need to do to restore it, its not a theme issue rather than a server one we do not support that

That was my first thought, the hacking, but it is now quite evident that this didn't happen. Really, quite evident. Yes, the site loads, but I can't log in.

I did a backup myself, because I can log into the cpanel, just not the dashboard. And no, I still can't log into the dashboard. I can do a backup with FTP, but I don't know how to log in via FTP.

The only FTP software I have is what is available on my cpanel on my hosting site's services.

thanks again,
Susan

the first reply I totally missed that you said your sites were hacked... you definitely need to contact your host and have them backup your database then try rebuilding with fresh files,

Hi, ckelley,

I guess I should have added that I'm still pretty new to the world of WP and CSS. I was more of a "tear computers apart and throw them together" kind of tech.

What this means is that I'm afraid I don't know how to do what you just said. How do I log in via ftp? And do you mean just switch to a different theme rather than actually, say, deleting the theme files? Is that what "deactivating a theme" means?

I made a few mods to the theme files months and months ago--just things like default font sizes, height of the header, stuff like that. I don't want to lose those, ya know? If those were going to cause a problem, it would have shown up long ago.

thanks again,
Susan

force deactivate the theme(login via ftp and remove the theme files) and see if you can access your site, just want to make sure its a theme issue

also were you able to login with the theme active? if so it most likely isnt directly the theme though it may be a conflict with a plugin etc..

Also, do you know what either of these messages mean? I think they are coming from the theme, because they aren't anything I recognize:

[Sun Sep 16 11:32:44 2012] [warn] RewriteCond: NoCase option for non-regex pattern '-f' is not supported and will be ignored.

[Sun Sep 16 11:32:47 2012] [error] [client 86.60.62.26] Failed loading /usr/php/53/usr/lib64/php/modules/ZendGuardLoader.so: /usr/php/53/usr/lib64/php/modules/ZendGuardLoader.so: undefined symbol: gc_remove_zval_from_buffer, referer: http://alhekmh.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Hi, again, after all this time,

I suddenly can no longer log in to either my test domain or my live domain today, though I could yesterday evening. It is NOT a password problem. I can log in to the cpanel on my hosting server, but I can not log in to my Wordpress dashboard.

 I am using WP 3.4.1.

Can you think of a reason why there would have been a note for the last couple of weeks--longer perhaps--on the dashboard telling me that the Option Tree plugin was necessary for this to function, click "here" to install or download or some such? I've had your version of the Option Tree and its options installed since the time I installed your theme, so I just don't understand this.

I ask this because it may have something to do with these errors that may be crashing my logging it: /home2/alecdest/public_html/error_log: [15-Sep-2012 21:13:51] PHP Warning: getimagesize(http://www.alec-destroys-democracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DPCF-logo-LT.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error in /home2/alecdest/public_html/wp-content/themes/wppolitico/header.php on line 32 [15-Sep-2012 21:14:02] PHP Warning: getimagesize(http://www.alec-destroys-democracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DPCF-logo-LT.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found in /home2/alecdest/public_html/wp-content/themes/wppolitico/header.php on line 32

Line 32 gets the size of the logo from the Option Tree. Our logo has been fine for months, its size has been fine, etc. And, as of last night, everything was fine. Again, the only thing I can think of is something about the confusion over the standard Option Tree vs yours.

Unless, of course, BOTH of my sites were hacked on the same night. That seems awfully weird.

http://www.alec-destroys-democracy.org

thanks for any and all help,
Susan
