<p>There really isn't an "actual size" since users have varying browser dimensions and screen resolutions. Your best bet is to shoot for 16:9 as that is the most common aspect ratio. But as I mentioned, portions of the image will always be out of view as that's just the nature of full screen image technology.</p>

<p>Technically speaking, the whole image is never shown in any browser (not unless the image dimensions are exactly the same as the browser window). With the way the full screen technology works, it stretches the image so that it fills the window both horizontally and vertically. If the image is extremely wide, for example, it will have to stretch the image to fill the window vertically (leaving a good chunk of the left/right portion of the image out of view).</p>
