Hello, I used the plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/advanced-dates/ and it is working perfect in my website. I think you like too much to complain instead of thanking for a great solution to the problem.

So for all of you that you need to set up times pre-1970, us advanced dates plugin, for my site is working perfect!

@ svmehta its a server issue not a theme issue, there is not quick fix you need to have your host resolve the issue

Saying godaddy is the worst host you can use is not a solution to this problem. How do we fix this?

This problem should be address in the update. Anyhow we can't use this theme correctly, I think many other users is the same. I use godaddy hosting, they said that it is not the host's problem. The way how timeline is structured should be reorganized. Or this pretty theme is pretty much useless.

As Chris K mentioned, this is a hosting related thing and has to do with the setup *THEY* have on their end. It doesn't have anything to do with the computer *YOU* are using (i.e. Mac or PC computer).

thanks for quick reply, but I have also tried the windows machine, I still can't change the date prior to 1970s. How should I make use of this pretty theme?

@ vincentyaow a Mac book is a unix system..... also thats not how the theme is coded nor how WordPress functions(as the theme is using WordPress functions) its not that simple nor would it be viable to do as it would break the default functionality of WordPress

@ckelley I am using a Mac book, but it seems that it's not working. The ultimate solution is to update the theme with a new variable that specifies the timeline. Sometimes people just need words not just numbers/years on timeline. So if there is a label for a timeline, and a order number for the label, it would provide much more flexibility for this theme.

I mean timeline should be something like
Order number: 1 Label: NYC in the 1880s
Order number: 2 Label: NYC in the 1890s
......

@ dioptrica its the unix timestamp specifically which is what the PHP library uses, I dont think that something hosts can just change and it seems to be more of an issue with Windows servers over Unix/Linux ones though I have the same issue on my local using a unix machine been trying to dig a function for a simple fix but so far no luck

looks like some machines(linux) will allow for negative time stamps but windows will not

I was the original poster on this issue and moved my site to another provider to get it to work. Can you give me further details on which PHP library/build will allow dates pre-1970 and how to sort out the time stamp issue? I can pass it on to our service provider to see if they can set that so we could use it on our regular system.

@vincentyaow its the PHP build and time stamp, using any date function it still wouldnt allow it to go pre-1970 as the PHP library is whats preventing it

I think this theme should have a separate variable to indicate the timeline date, rather than just the publishing date!

I think this problem is still there, I am hosted on Godaddy, I think many users are the same like me. If we can't set the date, then we can't use this theme.

Ultimately this issue involves the way your hosting provider has things configured. As you can see, I can make these date changes easily on the demo site without issue. I suggest contacting your hosting provider about this to see if there is a switch they can flip for you to make this a non-issue.

That plugin just allows you to offset dates by a certain amount (-100 years, for example). We don't want to have to tell our clients to set their dates in the future, just to have them appear in the past; it's too confusing!

Hey Chris, been looking for a theme to develop a timeline of research on spinner dolphins. This is perfect.

I'm having an issue with loading older dates into the timeline. I can put in the Battle of Midway, but cannot get the system to recognize years earlier than the 1900s - if I specify 1778 as illustrated in your posts walkthrough, it jumps to 2012 - but stays at the start of the timeline!

Any help you can provide would be great. It's on a WP network, not sure if that makes a difference.
