Still trying...
You other advice which required tweaking code was not hard from me but I am stumped on one main. I think the problem is that there is an assumption of knowledge in regards to using Word Press. That said I hope I'm not that dense, just challenged in a different environment where more of the controls seem hidden.

I tried many of your suggestions and have more questions (sorry):

I still cannot get the two column template to work. I checked them both for the pages I wanted, update those pages and published but no change. I would like to have a right hand sidebar on the home page (with the fundraising widget) & on the Contact Us page, the address on the left & the Google map on the right.
Please look at the page links or suggest what might be wrong
2. I set up the widget but am unclear what you mean by name it.
I went to Widgets, selected the text widget. In the title I typed "You Have Helped Raise" created my own numerical amount, then in the box below pasted this: $0100000
Where would I name the widget?
Do I need it to have my web url instead of the one linked to themolitor.com?

Thanks.

1) Homepage/Contact - It should be setup just fine if it's as you explained. Did you install this plugin to control your widgets? http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/display-widgets/

Other Questions:

1) From the Help file, "To create this widget, all you need to do is add a text widget to the sidebar. In the text widget, add an a tag with id "ticker". NOTE: the ticker requires 8 characters. So, for example, if you've raised $50, you would enter "$0000050"."

2) Template comes with 2 Columns. The plugin above should help you add it to a specific page.

3) Whatever you want

5) Theme Options > General > Underneath "Two Columns"

6) Nothing's changed that much, if at all... should be all set.

Thanks,
Justin

Justin,

Ok, I will try again.
I am trying to control the position of content (text, photos, widgets) as you would on a web page and need to determine why the options you provide aren't working. I went back and looked at my pages. The Home is set at 2 column under the page attributes. I also selected this for my Contact us page, which I deleted , created a new one and made sure to select 2 Column template. I see no change.

Do I need to do this at the very start when I create the home page or can I chose it after then "update" that change and republish the page? Maybe this is the step that I'm missing?

My other questions:
1. How can I get the Money Raised widget to show in a column on the right hand side?
2. Do I need to create a sidebar before a widget or is that already part of the template for 2 cols?
3. If I want use a widget and have to name it, does it have to match any previous named php page or just whatever I want?
5. Where is the Content Position drop down in Option Tree per your instructions in the help document: "The sidebar contents are controlled from the "widgets" page. The positioning of the sidebars is controlled from the OptionTree panel from the "Content Position" drop down menu..."
6. If things have changed that much with how Word Press works with Option Tree can you provide some updated instructions?

Thank you.

Hey there,

Homepage - Go to your "Homepage" and set the template to "2 Columns". Then follow the settings for the Money Raised widget and you'll be set. Homepage needs to be 2 columns though.

Other than that, I'm not really sure what type of help you're looking for. The theme appears to be in better shape than it was the other day? Can you list out what you're struggling with?

Justin,

I would appreciate whatever directions you can provide.
When I create a page I can see the option to have either the default template, 2 Column Page, or Full Width Page.

When I first created pages I had them set to the default template, named each, put some text in each and published so I could create my menu. I must need to set up the pages differently to get the php functions to work (???). Even to set up a widget you need to have a sidebar and it's not clear how to do that either.

If I'm just slow to grasp the approach, I understand but maybe there's some crucial information missing? After watching your tutorials, which did not cover the AID template specifically, I watched a good tutorial from YouTube for beginners using WordPress and how to upload themes, navigate the Dashboard and set up post and pages. It was very detailed but still didn't help explain exactly how to deal with more complicated templates.

Here's the link in case others want to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexUS43sdeQ&feature=related

Anyway, fire away when you have a chance.
I look forward to this all coming together and am pretty certain I will use WP for more projects in the future... it generally has lots of good functions, especially with all the plugins available. When all goes well, I can see that it will save time on design and development.

Thanks in advance for your patient assistance.

Hey there,

Thanks for the kind words. Your site is coming together quite nicely. Couple notes:

1) Widgets - Have you assigned titles to them (Widgets require titles)? Have you setup the Homepage as a 2 Column Page?

2) When you create pages, are you not seeing the Page Template option?

Let me know... I think I can walk you through these to the finish line.

Thanks,
Justin

Nice work on the Aid theme, it is exactly what I've been looking for. Your documentation and walk through videos are well done. HOWEVER, things must have changed just enough that I can't figure after watching several how to make the various PHP pages function.

I am creating a static website (for now) using the latest version of WP and Option Tree plugin. The style sheet seems to be functioning and I have been working on content after setting up the pages I wanted, naming them and creating a menu.

Now that I want to have for example the "you helped raise" widget on the Home page, that won't show up even after creating the widget, a text box inside it and the code that was provided in the help document.

Also, for subsequent pages I would like the option of two columns, like for my contact us page, so I can have the address on one side and the Google Map right next to it, not just underneath.

Do I need to create categories, posts, or something like a loop in order to get this to work. If so, consider including these instructions somewhere, as I have spent extra time researching and trying different approaches before logging this request.

I would appreciate some hint, clue, direction or existing forum that would allow me to finish...I'm oh so close to done. Thanks in advance for your help.
