Upon further experimentation I find that I can get posts to show up on the front page when I move the original to the trash then recreate the post. However I now find it is not posted in the slider any longer. My question now is how does one choose which posts go to which destination; slider/front page news. I would ultimately like to be able to post select stories to both places, is this possible?

Same problem at ElectMarkLinde.com ...So just to review:

1. Create a category "blog" & apply it to at least 4 posts.
2. Set "blog" as Default Post Category.
3. Confirm minimum of 4 posts with featured images.

Check, check, and check. Still nothing on the front page. Any suggestions?

I have checked things on the back end and also made at least 4 posts with featured images. This is not fixing the problem.

Oh ok- I made a second post with a featured image and that one popped up- I had missed what you had said previously about it being seperate from the slider posts. OK. GOT IT! ;)

All of the posts I've done (there are 4) have the "Blog" category checked. I have made it my default category. I just made another one, "Test" that is only in the blog category and its not showing up on the home page. Several of them are also "featured" which is my category for the slider and theyre showing up fine.

It doesn't appear that you have any actual blog posts in the Blog category. Try creating a few test with Featured Images and that should do it :)

Hi Guys! I'm so glad this forum is here. So I just added a "Blog" category to my initial 3 posts but they're still not going to the home page. I see that Brianowens changed his default category to "Blog" and that solved it. How do I change the default category? I assume you mean from "Uncategorized" to "Blog" right?

EDIT -

I had this same problem then figured out I had to set "blog" as the default post category for some reason. That did the trick for me. Try that if the above does not work for you.

Ah, I see, sorry if I misunderstood you both at first...

Try creating a separate category called "Blog", assign 3 or 4 posts to that category (separate from sliders), and that should do it. Make sure they have Featured Images. As of now, it appears you both only have posts in the slider category and that could be the issue.

If that doesn't work, please let me know and I'll investigate further!

jhandler, I understood the root folder problem and had attempted to fix it by reinstaling in the root. However looking at the site, the page gets a "Not Found" error underneath. Will that go away when I have more posts that will fill in that area down there? How do I specify what category to pull that from? Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. I just went to danmccay's site and his issue is exactly the same as mine. I installed wordpress into the root directory and the them seems to be looking for something that it can't find. My site is http://www.electcharlotte.com

Hi,

You're receiving a 404 Error, which means that the location it's looking for does not exist on the server. This would only work if you created a folder called "WP" in the Root and placed your Wordpress install in there. When you remove /wp, the site appears to be up and running.
