Photopharm does look pretty on an ipad, netbook, laptop and desktop but it's pretty much a non-starter on any mobile. If the main feature of the theme is the stretchy gallery schtick (which is great on a standard PC) then it's wasted on a mobile simply because at most the screen is 960 pixels wide and there's no need to increase the image size. So it's just redundant on a phone.

I've tried it on Android with Firefox and it kind of works, there's a problem with the text background colour disappearing when you scroll. On Opera on the same device the site does not work at all.

I've tried a theme switcher plugin to switch to a different iPhone optimised theme, which actually works fine...however - due to the way Photopharm's gallery works, when you look at a gallery page using another them what you see is nothing! because of Photopharm's ability in picking up the image gallery associated with the page, another theme will display zero when you look at it.

My solution has been to use a mobile redirect plugin (http://www.desimon.net/mobile-device-detect-reloaded/) to direct it to another URL, essentially another site specifically set up for mobile.

If you want a WP phototheme designed for mobile which scales to desktop then photopharm isn't it. There are other themes out there which do have this feature. Photopharm is great on a desktop and tablet, it's just not suited to mobile.

Hi there,

At the time the theme was released, you did not need to use 2 fingers to scroll. With the most recent update to iOS, you only need 1 finger to scroll fixed elements on the iPhone/iPad/iPod. Are you running iOS 5?

This theme has a layout optimized for the iPhone specifically because of the amount of screen space available. If the iPhone displayed the same layout as on desktop PCs, then you would have a lot more trouble with the user experience as there simply isn't enough space to maneuver.

Hope that helps!

Chris

Hey Justin,

Not to be a pain about this, but unfortunately most users will never figure out that it needs to be scrolled with two fingers, since most things scroll fine on an iPhone, how would the user know they need to use two for fixed elements within a web page. For instance this post was going for a while and you never mentioned that you need two fingers to scroll, and I don't think it's something most users come across on most web pages. I love the themes that the molitor and yourself work on, but personally I wouldn't have shelled out the $35 for this theme if I knew it was going to mean hours of effort to try and make it work for the iPhone. I understand what yur saying about how it's hard to make a site bulletproof when there's so many different devices, however there is an iPhone stylesheet for this theme and on the photopharm page on the molitors site one of the qouted selling points is that it looks pretty on an iPhone. Additionally I don't think the iPhone/iPad is just any device, it's a huge market that clients expect there sites to work on, I don't know y apple is reluctant to fix this issue, however could yourself or the molitor give us a fix that would help us work around it? I understand Chris is really busy, he does great work, but this issue is out there and it seems like he should be finding ways to work around it if he's going to market these themes as pretty on an iPhone/iPad.

I found one site that has some more info on it and a potential fix you could try:
http://cubiq.org/iscroll-4

Thanks!

Hey guys,

There's not much we can do in this instance. We try to make the themes 'bulletproof', but with so many devices, and specifically Apple coming out with new rules, it's impossible to protect against them all. iPhone users should really know how to use their device, the website should not need to teach the user.

Sorry I couldn't be more help here, we just can't control the way the iPhone scrolls. Hope you understand.

Thanks,
Justin

Hey Justin,

Finally figured it out haha and I feel like an idiot, but updating the post just in case anyone else is iInexperienced like me. OK so it turns out that Apple disabled all the scrolling functionalities on the webkit for iPhone, javascript functions and events included. So basically you can scroll the whole screen with one finger but to scroll elements inside the page (e.g. iframes) you have to use a two-fingers gesture. So basically my entire problem was that I was trying to scroll within the sliding panel with only one finger, leading to the page looking like it was being cut off/unscrollable!

Is there a tasteful/pretty way you can think of warning site visitors about this, I'd like iPhone users to be able to know that they can scroll when they visit my site (but that they have to use two fingers)?

Thanks for trying to help, you may want to add a warning about this in the help page.

I checked on a Droid Incredible with the same response today, was able to scroll, etc... I would say try re-uploading your theme. There's always the potential that something didn't upload all the way or completely properly. With that said, it's really tough to say considering I'm able to scroll without issue...

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Wow is it really, that's so Wierd, I just checked on a friends using version 4.3.3, and on mine using version 4.2.7 and neither scrolled properly, or showed background images or the tabs on both my version of the site and the live photopharm version at themeforest. We are on verizon iPhones, not sure if that matters. Are there any steps I can take to troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks!

I went to the photopharm live demo on themeforest to test it on my iPhone to check if it displays properly, and it shows the background image while the themeforest purchase frame is there, however once you x out of the themeforest purchase frame, the photopharm Demo has the same issues I'm having. It only shows the sliding panel, with none of the clickable square tabs, additionally the sliding panel is not scrollable, and anything that doesn't fit on the initial screen load gets cut off, is this template not iPhone/iPad optimized?

My site http://johnwalkerjr.com is not displaying properly on the iPhone (and possible the iPad, I don't have one to check on lol), I was wondering if you could tell me what I might be doing wrong. No matter whether displayed vertically or horizontally, it shows the background image 100% completely covered by the sliding panel, with no view of the sliding panel square tabs. Would the size of the uploaded image affect this?

Thanks for your help!
