Solved my own problem.... The main issue was using twitter tools to post to wordpress directly from twitter. Everything works very well now. I set the Post title to off and excerpt to on.... successfully brought in the pretty photo captions, without displaying post titles on the main page.

Currently I have turned off post titles and excerpt titles because my client loves the clean homepage for her photos. My problem is that she wants to have the titles appear only when pretty photo launches the modal window... is this possible? It seems turning off titles and excerpts controls this.
