My best suggestion is to login to your site via FTP or cPanel and delete the old theme and then upload the new version. Make sure you make a backup of the old version of your theme just in case something goes wrong.

If deleting your old theme makes you nervous, another option is to rename the old version of the theme. This will allow you to successfully upload the new version of the theme.

• Login to your site via FTP or cPanel and navigate to wp-content/themes/ and find your old theme.
• Rename your old theme something like “theme-old” (replacing “theme” with the name of your theme).
• Upload your new theme.

The old and new versions of the theme will both appear in the themes interface, but you will be able to distinguish them by their folder names and version numbers.

Hi Christopher, I'm trying to update the theme to a mobile responsive version by re-downloading the file in my downloads on themeforest. When I try to upload the new .zip file to my themes, it says "Theme install failed". Do I have to delete the old version before I can install the new one? I'm worried that if I delete it, and the new one still doesn't work it will seriously mess up my website? Thanks, Nick.

I figured it out, I didnt even think about the plugins effecting it, turns out it was a twitter plugin making it non mobile, thanks for your help and your patience

When I visit your site, I'm not seeing a default setup of the theme. I see lots of CSS customizations that you need to remove in order to rule out your edits as the cause of the issue you're having.

ok so i deleted the old theme and reuploded it and im still getting the same problem, when i go to customize and click the tablet or the phone the menus disappear, please help me with this its driving me crazy, i dont understand what im not doing.

There a number of ways to update. Replacing files via FTP is always the best, but you can delete and then reupload as well.

If you've made ANY edits to the theme files, that can have a large impact on the functionality of the site.

Please temporarily revert to a default setup of the theme (no code edits) and I'll take a look at your site. I do not provide support for issues that may be the result of customizations made to the theme (unless I'm the one providing the customization services).

hmmm do you think you could elaborate a little?, i might have messed with the code a little but it was to get the theme how i wanted it, and as far as the customization goes, i thought i did everything, do i need to put the code in the custom css box? i think thats all im missing in the customize option

I see lots of CSS/style edits that would not be applied to a default setup of the theme. It also looks like you may need to reapply some of your settings on the Customize page. I'm not sure what version you updated from, but go ahead and visit that page to review the options (appearance > customize).

i have made edits in the past but what i do is delete the theme off wordpress and reupload nocturnal so i would think thats how you revert to the original correct? i almost got the theme right where i want it minus showing up on a phone

I got the update and I see the different options to choose the phone tablet or computer in the customize menu at the bottom, the problem is my main menu doesnt show up on the phone or tablet any ideas?

hi, I read in the forum that the theme isnt mobile compatible but i was wondering if you can tell me what i could do to get it to work, im not looking for a totally different theme im just trying to get it to show up on a phone like it does on the computer, currently the background is too zoomed in and theres no menu, if this isnt possible maybe you can point me in the direction of another option, thanks
