I have the same request from my client. They are wanting to be able to go into the post by clicking on the image in addition to the "continue reading here". Would it be possible to scrap the slider feature all together and drop in a custom slider instead?

Hi there,

With the way it's currently setup, linking the image is a limitation of the approach used. You can view details for how this slider is built here: http://designm.ag/tutorials/image-rotator-css-jquery/

As Justin mentioned, you would need to submit a customization request in order to alter the structure of the slider for the images to contain links.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Justin, I am facing the same issue. I understand the logic behind not making the images clickable, but I need this feature as one of my featured tabs will be a 'video' and the featured image (video screenshot) needs to be clickable so that users can go straight to the video. I took a look at the customization page form and I don't think this request falls under that category. A comment with a simple code to change this would solve the issue. It would be a far too lengthy process to request a customization for such a small change.

Thanks

I understand your point Justin and my customer hasn't yet asked for this but I think they might. I agree that the purpose of the slider is to display an image with a caption. It's more about branding, look and feel, than it is about content. However, knowing that most people scan webpages and if they see a title and image that is interesting to them, the first thing they would do would be to click on the image. The "Continue Reading" link in the caption area is not overly noticeable even with custom css.

I might look around in the jquery forums to see if there's a hack to the scripts file that might take care of this. I actually got it to link to the first (most recent post) by wrapping "><?php the_post_thumbnail('main'); ?> but when clicking on the other older featured posts, the link for the main image stayed on the first URL...

Well, it's a great theme. I'm blown away by how clean and organized the code is. It was challenging to figure out, but once I had an idea of how it was constructed, I find it a lot easier to modfiy.

Thanks,
Bob

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the feedback. Not making the full image click-able was a conscious effort. Think about it like this... What's the goal of the slider? To display an image with supporting content. You want your users to click on the "Continue Reading" button and get to your content. Making the full image click-able would also eliminate the need for the "hide" feature, which allows users to view that full image.

So, while I can see your point, it was definitely done on purpose. You would need to make some customizations to the theme. For customization requests, please fill out the following form: http://themolitor.com/custom.

Thanks again,
Justin

Great theme. It's a shame that the image in the featured slider doesn't automatically grab the URL of that post. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks,
Bob
