The problem is fixed now. The host server was set up on Windows. Once it was changed to Linux the theme worked fine.

In lieu of a refund, will you permit me to try a copy of your MISC theme? It is similar in appearance, and while I really like certain features of The Producer I am in a jam time wise with my client and cannot fiddle with this any longer.

Hi Chris. I don't know what you mean when you suggest loading the site on a live domain. All I know is that

a. other themes load fine on the site louisfilm.com
b. your theme The Producer loads fine on other sites, hosted at the same place
c. your theme does not load on the site louisfilm.com
d. It has something to do with the PHP error on line 43 of index.php file

And now, if there is really nothing you can do, I must move on to some other theme.

Hi there,

That shouldn't be causing errors like that. It sounds like you have very strict server settings on your local machine. Have you tried loading the site on a live domain?

Let me know.

Since the error message said "PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'custom-background' in G:\PleskVhosts\louisfilm.com\httpdocs\wp-content\themes\producer\index.php on line 43" I opened that file and deleted the offending line This seems to help - the theme now activates, and allowed me to insert a background image.

However, when I create a new page I got this: "PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'sub-text' in G:\PleskVhosts\louisfilm.com\httpdocs\wp-content\themes\producer\functions.php on line 289
PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'custom-background' in G:\PleskVhosts\louisfilm.com\httpdocs\wp-content\themes\producer\functions.php on line 289"

I have not created any posts, nor uploaded any content to the site. I deleted and reinstalled Wordpress, to be sure it was clean. The theme uploads, appears in the list of themes along with the Wordpress default themes, and then simply refuses to activate. The only clue is the PHP error message that my host provided. Beyond that I have no idea what to do

Hi Chris, I called the host and they managed to find this line of PHP that may hopefully point to the problem:

PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'custom-background' in G:\PleskVhosts\louisfilm.com\httpdocs\wp-content\themes\producer\index.php on line 43

Hi there,

I've never seen a 500 internal error as a result of activating any of my themes before, so I'm at a total loss for what could be the cause. There must be something unique about the setup you have on that particular site (especially since you have the theme working just fine elsewhere).

I'm more than happy to address any theme errors or bugs, but as far as I can tell this is an issue with that particular site setup/configuration. I recommend contacting the host for any insights they may provide on what makes that domain/site so different.

Best,

Chris

Hi, and thanks for checking. I take your point about the server error, but heres the thing: activate any theme other than The Producer on the site, and it works just fine. Only The Producer throws up a server error. So I have to believe that the error is theme-specific. I don't know why or how, since the theme works on other sites I host, when I test it there. If there is nothing you can do, then so be it, but I wouldn't even know what to ask my ISP, since only The Producer fails.

Thanks for your help,

Hi there,

I visited the site link you provided and see a 500 internal server error. This is not theme-related and would need to be resolved with your hosting provider.

If you're able to resolve this issue or you still have trouble after addressing that error, please let me know.

Hi there,

It's possible that for the site to display properly, you need to first configure the settings on the "Customize" page. Even though you don't see a live preview, try going through the options and that might trigger something that is required for the theme to display.

If that doesn't help, please provide a link to your site and I'll check it out.

Best,

I have downloaded the theme, and uploaded the .zip file in the usual way to my Wordpress site. The theme say's it's installed, and shows up among the installed themes. When I select the "Customize" option, there is no preview. If I visit the site, it I get a server error message. Other sites load normally, even other themes that I uploaded myself, as opposed to the default themes. Am I doing it wrong Any advice appreciated.
