From the help file,

"Post Image Gallery

To create a post image gallery like the demo, all you have to do is simply upload images and the gallery will automatically be created for you. Images are automatically sized to 53x53 and will display full size when clicked."

If you're looking for an optimal size as a guideline, I wouldn't go much larger than 800 X 800 on your images. That'll allow them to open in full on 'most' computers. On others it opens past the browser it won't be significant.
