You can create categories on the Categories page from the WP dashboard.

The categories only appear as options on the Customize page if you have posts published to those categories.

To avoid the slider posts from appearing in the post section, be sure to have a category created specifically for the slider (i.e. "Slider", "Featured", etc.).

Regarding static pages, that's a basic WordPress feature. You can create pages by clicking "Add New Page" from the various locations on the WordPress dashboard. To assign a static page as the home page, review the options available on the reading settings page.

Hi there,

I just downloaded the update but I'm confused by some of the changes. How do I create categories for the home posts section? I do not want the items on the slider to also appear in the home posts section. Also, how do I create a static page?
