Also ImageOptim does a really good downsizing job. A good WP plugin for high res images is 'WP Retina 2x' Check it out!

So, I finally fixed my issue.

After adding the black bars, I used fireworks to adjust the resolution of the image to 1024 and let it decide the height. My page load times are so much better now.

Unfortunately theres not "good" method to do that, when dealing with hi-res you're always going to have horrible load times, you can try and optimize the images as much as possible but in the end it still will have to load a 1-3 meg image and if you have multiple on a page it can be a hassle

What are other users of this themes method for using high res images without losing the quality of the image. In my experience thus far, I can get one of two things to happen: High Res image/unbearable load time or Fast load time/Horrible loss of quality.

Just checking to see how others are dealing with this. Any and all help is appreciated.
