I see what you're saying. The best way to address this is to place your image below a "More" tag, which you can apply through the WYSIWYG editor.

this happens regardless of whether I have a feature image (but to add the featured image I went to the featured image are that is part of the them, selected the media and then clicked "use as featured image"). when I added the photo to the post however I clicked on the upload/insert add media above the text entry window.

Are you setting the image as a "Featured Image" on the post, or just an image within the content body?

If you notice on the home page it includes the Caption details "[caption id="attachment_162" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Denny Zent's Official Announcement"][/caption]" but if you click the actual post everything looks normal.

I have inserted a photo with a caption at the beginning of a post and left justified it. When viewing the post everything looks great. The problem comes on the home page... the Caption code is displaying before the except of text.

Not sure if it matters but I am using wordpress ver 3.3.1
