Hey Ian,

The post above explains the usage of RSS feeds pretty well. Essentially, people who follow your blog closely would subscribe to your sites RSS feed. Then, using a tool such as Google Reader, or another RSS aggregator, they can see updates without visiting your site. Generally people who follow many different blogs, or news sites will use Google Reader to get all their information quickly, rather than going to each site.

Hopefully that helps a bit more... and if you're still having trouble with the feed on your site please post a link so we can take a look!

Have a nice evening.

Justin

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it in order to keep one informed of updates to their favorite websites.

Google apparently is the most popular. Format would be:

http://www.<your-domain-goes-here>.com/?feed=rss2

And the user would sign up if they want to receive it (which is what they would probably do since they clicked the button in the first place.)

I'm only offering my insight because I had the same dilemma. I am not with the support staff. So the support staff may alter or remove this reply.

Hey Chris,

I don't really follow or understand the idea or concept for RSS feeds other than the fact that it makes it easy for others to follow my blog at my site.

My problem is this - your theme has the awesome "social" buttons implemented into the bottom right corner of the footer. I adapted mine to be (in this order)

RSS feed, LinkedIn Profile, Facebook Profile, and Vimeo Profile.

All of them work except the RSS feed (according to Chrome) - I don't know how to set up my RSS, or what a person is supposed to get by pushing that RSS icon in the footer. Can you enlighten me, and possibly explain how to set it up.

Thanks!

-Ian T. Jamison
