I've tested and tested. The problem seems to be the length of the video I need to run on the homepage. If the front page supported a vimeo link instead of just locally hosted video, I'd be in heaven. As it is now, I've got to abandon what's otherwise the perfect theme for me. :-/

VYSUAL is using the Background script by Formstone for the background video feature. I'll have to look into this and research possible solutions. I haven't seen this in any of my demo testing, so I'm thinking it has to do with file size.

HI Jillian-- How did you do extend the fade? I'm excited because this would probably work for me!

I find if I have a much smaller reel file it helps somewhat. Each browser handles the auto load a bit differently. (Chrome is definitely the grumpiest-- maybe it requires the whole file load before playback whereas the others don't???)

It would be great if the autoload supported Vimeo and/or YouTube URLs. Their servers obviously have more umph...

Saw this post and wanted to say that I had the same issue as you with the header image flashing before the video. I tried everything I could and took a deep look into the code and I couldn't figure out how to stop this (probably since it might be Chrome specific?) My solution was that I figured out how to extend the fade from the image to the video so that it looked like the image was supposed to be there on purpose rather than just a quick flash. It didn't seem to bother my client so I got away with it. Hopefully this can be fixed in a new update?

On my PC it does it in Firefox as well-- Not the first time it's loaded, but after that yes. I've got caching off on my server so I gotta think this is to do with the theme. I don't want to use the first frame of the video b/c it's a showreel meant to move whereas if the image is static, I need something more striking. This theme does every single thing I need it to do otherwise. I'm not doing anything unique here-- nobody else has come across this? I really don't want to abandon the theme as it's perfect in every other way...

Ah, I see it when I try in Chrome. It doesn't happen in FireFox for some reason. I'm not sure there is a "fix" as this is probably related to how the browser loads the video (i.e. Chrome might prioritize displaying/playing the video differently than FireFox).

My best suggestion is to have the first frame of the video as your header image. This way it will appear as though the video is loading. Would that fix this for you?

Scratch that-- still does it with caching off....

could this have something to do with WP Super Cache?

Hmm-- please take another closer look. It happens plain as day to me in the US in Chrome (Mac & PC) and Safari and to my client in Taiwan on his Macbook. The theme is loading the header image first (very quickly) then the video. It flashes like a subliminal message.

I have to have a header image set for mobile (and if I don't upload my own, the theme's default picture of the road flashes instead). Does this theme not detect the browser/device and display accordingly?

If this is not by design what settings do I have to have in place to prevent the header image from flashing before the video?

I visited the URL and don't see any flashes. It appears you're using a video background and not the header images feature.

Let me know if you change this and I'll take another look.

Please keep in mind, the autoplaying pop-up video only displays after the page has finished loading.
