Hi there,

Glad you're able to make some progress.

Regarding the home page, I didn't see that. Are you using a caching plugin? If so, try deleting the cache to see if that works for you. The theme uses a built-in home page, so you don't need to assign a "home" page. Just leave it set to display latest posts on the reading page.

Thanks!

Chris,

I'd hate for you to think I'm insane. This is what I was seeing on Firefox:

http://grab.by/kC0o

But it looks like it must be a browser problem as I can see the timeline on Safari.

I re-uploaded the image and that solved the problem with the slider and the featured image.

I think I've also found a fix for the slider: if you go to Media Library then you see the list of your media and in that list you can "Attach" an image to Post; doing that adds it to the slider.

Thanks for your help, Chris. I'll try and take it from here.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi there,

The timeline is showing just fine. Keep in mind there are no dividers in the timeline because your posts are all in the same year.

I took a look at your thumbnail and it looks like your previous theme used a 100x100 thumbnail, which is what is being used. You'll need to reupload the image (or use the "regenerate thumbnails" plugin) to have the dimensions the theme uses applied to the image.

Thanks!

How many do I need? I now have four:

http://www.americanartistinrome.com/category/all-paintings/

But still no home page timeline:

http://www.americanartistinrome.com/

Also, you can see the pixelated thumbnail appears. BUT, I'm guessing this is because I assigned it from the media library and not after I uploaded it. I'll try that and see if that fixes the problem.

Please advise on the home page.

Thanks,

Chris,

Wow. That explain a lot. I would recommend you make that an explicit point in the documentation / presentation: "if the images are already in the media library, you'll have to upload them again."

Now let me illustrate why this theme is trickier than it should be: I just switched to The Curator theme and all I see is the "Home" page; no timeline.

http://www.americanartistinrome.com/

And here is what I see in the admin:

http://grab.by/kBT0
http://grab.by/kBSU

What else do I need to do to activate the timeline?

Thanks,

Hi there,

Unfortunately they have to be uploaded to the post to be attached to it. I realize that might not be ideal if you already have everything uploaded, but that is how the slider is setup to work. Sorry.

Hi there,

I was able to upload that image and use it properly without issue.

Example 1: http://s24.postimage.org/5j0h243b9/Screen_Shot_2013_03_11_at_1_16_09_PM.png

Example 2: http://s17.postimage.org/vdub6l7y7/Screen_Shot_2013_03_11_at_1_16_52_PM.png

Here were my steps...

Create new post.

Click "add media" on post edit screen and upload the image. Close pop-up after upload.

Click "set featured image" on the lower right-hand side of post edit screen.

Click the image I want to use (check mark will appear) and then click "set featured image".

Publish post.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the reply. Will you be at the tech support helm for a couple of hours? If so, I'll switch back to The Curator theme (I was finally able to reactive the old theme) and then perhaps I can work with you to fix things.

A few other notes:

With regard to the pixelated image: not a thumbnail; the original image is 2000 x 1330. Here's a link:
http://www.americanartistinrome.com/gallery/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/tja-netherland-2012-xl.jpg

With regard to attaching media to the post: no, I'm not using the Media menu on the left. I'm clicking "Add Media" within the post... but then? Do I have to put it IN the post to attach it to the slide show at the top? What are the steps exactly? Also, I still don't understand why the Featured Image isn't appearing as well.

Please understand that my disappointment was relative to my excitement... and I was thrilled when I found this theme! So, if you can help me resolve the above, then I'm confident I'll be happy.

Again, if you'll be around for a couple of hours, let me know and I'll make the switch and we can start the debug.

Thanks, Chris.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi there,

I'm really sorry you're not having fun using my theme :-(

1. If you're images are pixelated like that, maybe the image you're using is too small? I haven't seen that happen before. Can you provide a direct link to the image you're trying to use?

2. The post slideshow is automatically created by the images that are attached to the post. Images can only get attached to the post if they are uploaded from the post page you want them to display on. If you're using the media upload page (like the one you can click in the left menu), that method doesn't attach images to posts. You need to use the "add media" button on post edit pages to upload/attach images.

3. The logo is only created using an image. This is standard practice for premium themes. Sorry if that's a hassle for you.

4. I'm not sure about that one. There isn't anything in the theme that should prevent you from changing to another theme.

Again, I'm really sorry you're not 100% satisfied with the theme. Hopefully we can work through these issues you're having so you can be proud to show off your site :-)

Thanks!

Chris

Dear Chris,

I am a painter living in Rome, Italy and seasone web designer / Wordpress user. I'd been scouring the web looking for a new Wordpress template for my work, knowing I wanted something that wasn't the usual onslaught of fullscreen imagery meets lightbox meets galleries within galleries. It took a while to find The Curator, but once I did, I watched the video and you sold me. So I spent the $52 and installed.

Holy cow has this been disappointing experience....

For starters, the Featured Image is pixelated. For the life of me, I can't figure out why. Here is a screenshot:

http://grab.by/kzOu

I couldn't find anything that referenced this problem on the forums which I find strange. In addition, I don't see anything on the back end that gives me the option to rebuild the thumbnails. Has this not happened to others before?

Second, how in the heck am I supposed to get images in the slide show at the start of each post if the images are already in my media library? Not even the featured image shows. Here is another screenshot:

http://grab.by/kzOQ

But you can see here that a Featured Image is set:

http://grab.by/kzOS

Third, can I not have the title of my site show as text if I don't want to upload an image (logo)?

Fourth, when I try to switch back to my old theme, I can't! For some bizarre reason, The Curator "sticks."

I'll be honest: given the price of the theme, I really can't believe the amount of trouble I have had.

I do hope you can provide some support on these matters as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Tim
