Hi there,

You can delete OptionTree entirely if you like. It's not used at all with the latest version of the theme.

There were a few updates in the past where the code was completely overhauled and improved, so it's possible your cache/settings needed to reset or be saved again to make all changes go into effect from the version you were using previously (especially if it was bulk update containing a couple versions or more of changes).

When I add features to the Customize page, I'm sure to include a default setting so that nothing "breaks" (i.e. I have assigned default zoom levels, etc.). That said, I don't have deep knowledge of how WordPress processes new options in the Customize area after you update the theme.

In general, I strongly encourage you to review theme options after each update as the main reason I'm updating my themes these days is to add features and improve the code structure. Sometimes on a large scale like making the theme responsive or adding front-end submission form options, etc.

Hope that explains why you may need to save your theme options from time to time.

Sorry for the headache that might cause you, but I hope the new features/code make up for it :-)

Best,

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the information.

Although I've missed a couple updates, I've iterated the majority of updates; having migrated theme options to WordPress theme customization some time back.

With each recent update, the indeterminate wait spinner appears briefly only to leave the front page blank. This site is boxed Navigator on WordPress 3.9 with Akismet, Google XML Sitemaps, and OptionTree is still installed although deactivated. Only alteration is the addition of Google Analytics code I add to the header.

Thanks,

Jason Sturges

Hi there,

Just to clarify, are you updating from v1.3 to the latest version or have you been updating the theme each time a new version is made available?

The theme has gone through a lot of changes since v1.3. The biggest changes are features added to the Customize page. In almost every update, I've been adding options for users based on feature requests here in the forums, as well as improving the performance of the code in the site.

As a result, it's recommended that users visit the Customize page after each update to make sure they are utilizing new options.

I'm not aware of these changes breaking sites, but it just depends on whether or not your updating from a very old version or performing regular updates.

Let me know.

Best,

Chris

MOLITOR,

With a license to this theme since 6/5/2012 (v1.3), recent updates to this theme continually break my front page.

Although not a big deal, after each update I need to update theme customization by going to WordPress admin and selecting: Appearance » Customize, then making a change to enable Save and publish.

After updating the customization, my site becomes functional again.

Thanks,
